Abstract: Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide as there are currently no effective therapeutic options. CRISPR is a cutting edge technique that shows promise in various areas of translational medicine (NTLA-2001, VERVE-101 via delivery to liver); however its use in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, and their many facets, are yet to be determined. In order for CRISPR technology to become a potential therapeutic for the heart, improvements in the delivery, efficiency, and safety are required.
