Abstract: Cardiovascular disorders currently account for about 30% of deaths worldwide. An urgent need in cardiovascular medicine is to develop novel therapeutic tools and approaches to restore proper function of diseased hearts and regenerate cardiac muscle after injury. In our group, we try to combine the knowledge of stem cell biology, developmental cardiology, genome editing and bioengineering approaches to further therapies for diseased hearts. Here, I present our ongoing efforts to develop novel systems based on human pluripotent stem cells to advance our understanding of human heart development and disease and serve as a testbed for therapeutic approaches.
