MSB Online Seminar: Inductive Stimulation of the Phrenic Nerve

Titel: Inductive Stimulation of the Phrenic Nerve

Sprecher:  Philipp Braun (Gleich Group)

Datum und Uhrzeit: Dienstag, 9. Februar 2021, 13:00 Uhr

Abstract: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is an already well-established form of brain stimulation that uses an alternating magnetic field to generate electric field gradients within nerve fibers. Therefore, TMS can be used for diagnostic and treatment purposes without the need for invasive methods such as electrodes implanted into the tissue. However, this method is currently used mainly in the central nervous system. In this talk, we will introduce the use of magnetic stimulation to excite the peripheral nervous system, with the phrenic nerve being the main example. For this purpose, suitable function parameters are searched for and evaluated based on the results of a simulation.
