MIBE Seminar: Using Brain Organoids to Study Microglia-Brain Interactions within the Human Brain

Titel: Using Brain Organoids to Study Microglia-Brain Interactions within the Human Brain

Sprecherin: Irene Santisteban Ortiz (Schäfer Group)

Datum und Uhrzeit: Dienstag, 04. Juli 2023, 13:00 Uhr

Abstract: Understanding the intricate processes underlying human brain development and dysfunction has been a primary objective in the field of neurobiology. However, the limited accessibility to the human brain has presented a significant obstacle in achieving this goal. Recent advancements, particularly in induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology and the emergence of human brain organoids, have revolutionized the landscape of brain research. These novel experimental models have begun to capture the remarkable complexity of the human brain. Moreover, innovative techniques now allow the incorporation of diverse cell types, including microglia, within these three-dimensional miniaturized structures; offering a unique opportunity to unravel de development, function, interaction and potential dysfunction of certain cells types within the human brain.
