Topic: Bioinspired, Mechanically Programmable Soft Robots Actuated by Negative Pressure
Speaker: Dominik Gau, Doctoral Candidate (Mela Group)
Date and Time: Tuesday, 23 May 2023, 1:00 pm
Abstract: Soft robotics is an emerging research field that has attracted increasing interest for designing systems capable to mimic or assist functions of biological systems due to their inherent mechanical compliance. Especially pneumatically-driven soft robots have experienced significant popularity in the field, as they are low-cost and possess a high force-to-weight ratio. However, device failure due to high inflation pressures in positive pressure-driven systems depicts a major drawback for their use in applications that demand a large amount of actuation cycles. Hence, there is still an ongoing quest to find novel designs for robotic systems to cope with these issues.
