Topic: Clinical Dark-Field Radiography of Human Lungs
Speaker: Henriette Bast (Pfeiffer Group)
Date and Time: Tuesday 18 June 2024, 1:00 pm
Abstract: X-ray imaging is an essential tool in daily clinical routine. While conventional X-ray imaging is based on the attenuation properties of different materials, X-ray dark-field imaging forms an image contrast based on small-angle scattering. As microstructural changes in the human lungs can be difficult to see in attenuation images, dark-field images can provide beneficial information. A prototype system for clinical dark-field radiography enables the acquisition of dark-field images of the human thorax. In several clinical studies, the dark-field signal of study participants with healthy lungs and with various lung diseases has been investigated. This talk will provide an overview on these clinical results, demonstrating how dark-field imaging can enhance the diagnosis of various lung diseases.
