Title: Quantitative X-ray Virtual Histology
Speaker: Dominik John (Herzen Group)
Date and Time: Tuesday, 27 May 2025, 13:00
Abstract: Histopathology is the gold standard for diagnosing many diseases – it involves slicing and staining a tissue of interest to enable examination under an optical microscope. In biomedical research, an additional method for characterizing tissues is X-ray microtomography, which enables three-dimensional insights without physical slicing. However, the method is currently limited in resolution, availability, and tissue specificity. In an effort to push microtomography towards clinical histology and eventually enable a form of 3D virtual histology, we present a new method that allows the quantitative retrieval of tissue properties.
