Abstract: Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a segmental premature aging disease caused by a mutation in the LMNA gene. The mutation will generate a truncated and farnesylated form of Lamin A called progerin. Affected individuals develop several features of normal aging including lipodystrophy and the loss of subcutaneous fat. To study adipogenesis in these patients we used the previously described model of skin derived precursor stem cells (SKPs) and induced their differentiation into adipocytes. Here, we identify the effect of senescence and inflammation on adipogenic differentiation of HGPS SKPs.
