At each event, two Principal Investigators (PIs) of MIBE working in related research areas will provide exciting insights into their research. After the talks which take around 90 minutes, there is plenty of time for networking.

Speakers:
Prof. Dr. Cristina Piazza:
Bio-inspired soft artificial limbs for assistive robotics
Prof. Dr. Gordon Cheng: Neuroengineering fusion of robotics and neuroscience

Date and Time:  Wednesday, December 7th 2022, 4:15 pm – around 6:00 pm, afterwards networking
Place: MIBE lecture hall (room E.126), Boltzmannstraße 11, 85748 Garching and zoom

About the speakers

Prof. Dr. Cristina Piazza

Cristina Piazza and her team develop and improve bionic prostheses such as robotic hands and wearable devices. These systems are inspired by neuroscientific principles and exploit emerging technologies, i.e. the use of soft robotics, to overcome current functional and technical limitations and improve the performance of these devices. In addition, the team explores methods and advanced algorithms based on myoelectric control, to translate user intentions in commands for the prosthesis. Moreover, the researchers develop virtual reality environments that can be used to evaluate the perception of the prosthesis and develop further technologies.

Prof. Dr. Gordon Cheng

Professor Cheng (b. 1968) researches the fundamental understanding and construction of cognitive systems. He has made pioneering contributions in Humanoid Robotics, Neuroengineering, Artificial Intelligence for the past 20 years.
