RSNA Radiology Podcast - X-Ray Dark-Field Chest Imaging

A new podcast episode from the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) highlights the technology of x-ray dark-field chest imaging. This radiographic technique was developed by Franz Pfeiffer, Professor for Biomedical Physics and Director of the Munich Institute of Biomedical Engineering (MIBE) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Learn more about the topic in the podcast episode with Theresa Urban, a PhD candidate in Professor Pfeiffer’s research group, and Dr. Florian Gassert from the TUM university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar. The two researchers talk about their work and their recently published paper “X-ray Dark-Field Chest Imaging: Qualitative and Quantitative Results in Healthy Humans”. In this pilot study, the researchers analyzed x-ray dark-field images of 40 healthy human subjects. In the interview, the two first authors of the study talk about characteristics of x-ray dark field radiographs, point out differences between conventional radiography and dark-field x-ray imaging and discuss the possibilities for clinical application.

Interview by Dr. Lauren Kim (radiologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital), introduction by Dr. Linda Chu (radiologist at Johns Hopkins University, associate editor of podcasts for Radiology). The Radiology podcasts are released weekly and highlight articles of the Radiology journal or present special topics and interviews.
